The idea was to produce a compact prefab electrical busbar system by simple overcasting bare conductors with an insulation mix.

The company and the product
The company Applicom was established in the ’50-is as an electro technical trading company, representing i.e. English Electric for the Benelux. There they produced HV panels under license and started in 1960 the production of betobar, at first for the Benelux and after some years the rights were obtained for the whole world.

First generation 1960-1974
The betobar system was the first prefabricated electrical rail system used for the transportation of energy with an insulation material of modified concrete giving the system good electrical insulation, mechanical strength as well as smooth finish.
An engineer of the public electricity company Electricité de France was the inventor of the precursors of the current product betobar system.

In 1979, the current company Eta-com B was established taking over the rights from Applicom especially to market, manufacture and further develop the product betobar in all its aspects.

Second generation 1974-1976
In the beginning of the '70-is a new designed insulation material based on filled polyester synthetical resin is developed and our production method of today has been implemented. It was possible to carry out the basic idea of "casting a rail system with an insulation material characterising strong physical qualities" much more efficiently and with more potential forms and types.

The production time was reduced enormously, the quality was stabilised and the esthetical aspect was improved. The product name betobar-r for resin was launched and a patent was obtained.

The step towards the medium voltage market i.e. the PH type up to 17.5 kV was introduced at this time. In the LV market, the SL type (low impedance) with split phases in a symmetrical configuration was introduced as well. They are the most successful types nowadays

Third generation 1976-now
Together with a scientific Belgian research centre, a thorough study was carried out to find an optimal synthetical resin mixture that fully complies with our future expectations and the demands of the market (fire resistant – IP68 – EEx – and liability).

This solution was our current epoxy mixture BIM. The product name betobar-r has not been changed anymore, as a matter of fact we are dealing right now with the third generation betobar-r but still comply to the basic idea “overcasting conductors with a quality mix”.
It was, is and remains “a rock solid solution”
